Biffa Plc is currently on the lookout for a strong Transfer Station Operations Manager based at our Newstead site near Stoke-on-Trent. The Transfer Station Operations Manager will be responsible for the P&L and the organisation of the facility, ensuring the efficiency and continuity of operations on the site. They will also ensure that the site is operated in accordance with legislation, regulatory compliance, operational best practice and all tasks undertaken adhere to site rules.

Principle Accountabilities

* Be ultimately responsible for P&L, staff performance, organization of the site, preventative and reactive maintenance.

* Ensure the availability of staff, plant and equipment in order to sustain the uninterrupted operation of the facility.

* Be responsible for achieving and maintaining all task performance and operational recording on the site in relation to maintenance, monitoring procedures, sampling, inspections and compliance.

* Ensure that the relevant Health and Safety rules are adhered to and proactively maintain the company expectation and aspirations on Health, Safety, welfare and compliance.

* Maintain, update and deliver any required internal and external reports in a timely fashion.

Nature and Scope

The Site Manager is responsible for the financial and operational continuity, implementation and improvement of Waste Transfer & Process Stations operational best practice and development of the facility as well as assessment and provision of innovation and new technologies offering best value practice and to monitor the performance of the operations.

In particular, the Site Manager shall be proactive to ensure that the site is operated in accordance with legislation, regulatory compliance, operational best practice and all tasks undertaken adhere to site rules.

Person Specification

* Must have 5 years’ experience in a Waste Operation/TS/MRF/RDF/SRF/LFILL.

* Successful resource management and cost control.

* Strong P&L experience.

* Health and Safety Management.

* Good understanding of waste composition.

* CoTC/WAMITAB or be prepared to train towards.

* Strong written and spoken English along with good communication skills via writing, on a one to one basis and via the phone with all levels including management, team members and internal/external customers.

* Intermediate level of Excel along with good use of MS Office packages, including word and PowerPoint.

* Full driving licence and a willingness to travel for meetings/training/intercompany support.

* Flexible approach to working.
